Asturias Red Libre

Asturias Red Libre is a community mesh network project in Asturias, Spain. The goal is to provide affordable and reliable connectivity for rural communities using decentralized wireless infrastructure. Site is under construction and will be used to document progress and inform to start with.

Join the Network – First Step

We are currently planning the network and need basic information from participants.

Step 1 – Speed Test

1. Go to: https://librespeed.org/
2. Select the Amsterdam server
3. Turn off mobile data (4G/5G) to make sure the test uses your WiFi connection
4. Click "Start" and run the test
5. Take a screenshot of the result

6. Send it to:
   anders[at]asturiasredlibre.com

Include:

• Name
• House number / location
• WhatsApp number
• Connection type (fiber, DSL, mobile)
• Provider (Telecable, Movistar, etc.)
• Available higher speed subscription options (if known)

This helps us plan node locations, coverage, and costs.

Project Goals

• Build a decentralized village mesh network
• Connect households using long-range radios
• Keep monthly costs extremely low and reduce current household internet costs
• Create community-owned infrastructure
• Expand gradually as more houses join
• Be resilient against power and internet outages
• Enable additional local services for the village through the network

Village Deployment

Initial deployment aims to connect approximately 20 households across the village. This would cover most of the village and provide around 20 connected home networks.
